"There are places that find us; places where the uniqueness of self and creative expression are experienced at new levels. River Rock Studio is one of these places."
- Brian M. Atyeo C.S.P.W.C.

Nestled in the foothills of the Canadian Rocky Mountains, River Rock Studio is ideally suited for retreats or workshops; be they art, yoga, meditation or any other group seeking to escape to a natural, creative environment. With a diverse landscape ranging from meadows and aspen woodlands, to rocky ravines and free-flowing rivers, River Rock Studio seems a world apart from the city of Calgary, though it lies only an hour away. The Jamison Creek ravine and the Ghost River give the property its unique natural features.

Artist Ursula Reynolds and her husband Rick founded River Rock Studio in 1998. Ursula recalls feeling such a connection to the land that she “felt compelled to share it.”

Ideally suited for small groups looking for a place to create, escape and socialize. The main studio has a wall of north-facing windows two stories high. The adjacent studio space has excellent natural light as well. Both studios also have ample artificial lighting for painting to all hours.

Throughout the property there are vantage-point platforms to set up an easel to paint or just observe nature. The non-painter may hike, bird watch, fish, or just relax in the peaceful surroundings.

Enjoy a pleasant mix of private and shared living in a self-contained house. Generous common living areas encourage group interaction apart from the studio.

We provide all the basics, including bedding and a fully equipped kitchen stocked with spices and condiments for self-catering. It is a short drive to Cochrane, which offers various local amenities and a wide variety of dining experiences. Fully winterized, this year-round retreat can be enjoyed no matter the season.
