Open Studio with Jeremy Mayne
April 9–13
Tuition: $575 cdn.

This largely self-directed open studio workshop is designed to let you paint at your own pace and your own subject matter. There will be instructor driven sessions, as needed, to help increase your art vocabulary. This is an excellent opportunity to clarify your personal direction and resolve some painting “blocks”.

From Brian,

“Five hard days of painting will probably appeal to artists who are currently working at that level [intermediate/advanced] or artists who are looking for the experience of intense painting. I will demonstrate on the Monday and Tuesday of the week, focusing on deconstruction vs. reconstruction, and how the Design Elements and Principles apply to this line of thinking. The remainder of my week will be spent with one on one discussion of options and daily group critiques.

I will be encouraging artists towards the contemporary view of painting, with special attention given to paint surface and integrity.”

Surface Explorations with Anthony Steffes
September 3–7
Tuition: $585 cdn. (includes a $50.00 package of materials)

This workshop is all about exploring ways to catch the attention of the viewer by communicating effectively and dramatically through our art. The vast array of acrylic paint, acrylic mediums, papers, and special products, provides endless possibilities for creative problem-solving situations as we work towards our final products. The important thing is to focus on the process long enough to make new discoveries. While some demonstrations will focus on two-dimensional pattern and texture, other demonstrations will explore three-dimensional effects achieved by embedding natural objects and using sculpture mediums.

This year we will build on past projects and I will again provide some materials to challenge you. And as always, there will be a surprise or two.

A supply list including acrylic paints (basic colours), brushes, work surfaces, and basic workshop materials will be provided to participants.

Collage and Experimentation
October 12–14
Tuition:$365 cdn.

In this workshop, we will integrate collage and experimental methods using water based paints, including inks, to create new and exciting work. The workshop will build on previously learned techniques and will to some extent be participant driven. Bring lots of reference materials that are significant to you as well as a variety of papers, etc. to be used for collage and to share with the group. Some supplies will be provided. As always, curiosity and enthusiasm are especially welcome.
