Open Studio: Advanced Analysis with Brian Atyeo

From Brian,

“Five hard days of painting will probably appeal to artists who are currently working at that level [intermediate/advanced] or artists who are looking for the experience of intense painting. I will demonstrate on the Monday and Tuesday of the week, focusing on deconstruction vs. reconstruction, and how the Design Elements and Principles apply to this line of thinking. The remainder of my week will be spent with one on one discussion of options and daily group critiques.

I will be encouraging artists towards the contemporary view of painting, with special attention given to paint surface and integrity.”

Open Studio: Mixed Media with Anthony Steffes
June 24–28
Tuition: $585 cdn.

Are you up for a challenge, something totally new? Bring your inquisitive mind, passion for art, willingness to play and problem solve, and be open to discovery at this workshop. A set of mixed medium surfaces will be provided for your use during the workshop! We will be working small scale, probably about 10 x 10. You will need to bring very little---a sketchbook for notes, and simple supplies that everyone has in their studio. I will bring bins of pencils, pens, crayons, markers, conte, charcoal, and more for you to use. You will just bring basic paints, brushes, and clean up materials and nothing more. Join an arts community of creativity, play, exploration, and laughter.

Five days of explorations aimed at celebrating your existing skills while bringing some hidden talents out of dormancy will take you down some familiar and some unfamiliar paths. As we experiment with a wide range of mediums, sometimes in isolation and at other times in a layering process, we will solve creative problems, and will hopefully surprise ourselves while learning from each other.

I am enthused about this road trip to creativity and new beginnings. I will guide you safely, but will encourage you to take risks, embrace failure, and celebrate success. We will end up with twelve to sixteen pieces that may form a book of creative memories, become a stacked reference of ideas, be framed, sold, or burnt in a self-designed ritual of your choice. As they sing in “Bohemian Rhapsody”, “nothing really matters, at all”.

Wouldn’t it be fun to just play with art and ideas in the beautiful natural setting of River Rock Studio?

This year we will build on past projects and I will again provide some materials to challenge you. And as always, there will be a surprise or two.

A supply list including acrylic paints (basic colours), brushes, work surfaces, and basic workshop materials will be provided to participants.
